Stolon Studio is an ethical, ambitious and inventive architectural practice.   We offer a powerful combination of  idealism and pragmatism.

It has never been more important to be able to make the maximum impact with the minimum of resources. We have a lean approach to resources addressing critical issues including energy, materials and water management, and work closely with our clients to deliver climate-adaptive buildings and landscapes that reduce demand on the environment.

We never lose sight of the role design has to play in addressing the bigger societal challenges we face, such as climate change, flood-risk, public health or an aging population. We look to maximise social, environmental and economic value in all our work, with built projects that demonstrate our commitment to problem-solving, and which are genuinely innovative in terms of concepts, materials and technology.

  • Flood Resilient and Adaptive Construction

A flood resilient building is one that can recover from a flood quickly and at minimal cost and disruption. This means that the building is designed to withstand the structural and material damage of flood water; and it is designed such that it can be easily cleaned and dried out to remove pollution and damp such that it can be reoccupied.

An amphibious building, or can-float building, is one that is designed to float in the event of a flood, but to rest on solid foundations at other times.  This unusual hybrid building typology has an express purpose to protect the property from flooding by floating when water levels rise.

    Learning From: Homeschooling

Often the efforts we make as parents go unnoticed, hidden away in our homes and played out in gardens, playgrounds, and days out with the family. Similarly unnoticed is the wonderful industry in our schools, colleges, and nurseries. It is often said ‘teaching is a marathon not a sprint’. The quiet rewards are the enjoyment of ‘making a difference’.
